Reporting on a reunion of veterans of World War II in 1968 (‘Fathers, Sons, Screaming Eagles’) and noting their effusive nostalgia, she adds ‘Perhaps it was hard to bring the same sense of urgency to holding a Vietnamese village or two that they had brought to liberating Europe.’ She can load a plain statement with a cool, understated depth charge. She does not try to hide this: ‘To shift the structure of a sentence alters the meaning of that sentence as definitely and inflexibly as the position if a camera alters the meaning of the object photographed.’ She has a deadly way with a sentence. That entails expressing an attitude, a point of view. To report a fact requires arranging words. Joan Didion knows that language is not a windowpane.

The moment we finished reading this book we knew we wanted to make it into a movie." - Producer Peter Jackson * "Reeve's remains a landmark of visionary imagination." - School Library Journal, starred review Now a major motion picture produced by Peter Jackson!London is hunting again. "A breathtaking work of imagination, Hester Shaw is a heroine for the ages. The epic city-eat-city adventure is now a major motion picture produced by Peter Jackson! Bear in mind, I’m talking about a favourite amongst favourites, as I considered all of them masterpieces and the best fantasy books I’ve ever read. That indecision has now ended as Rhythm of War has managed to edge out the rest. This book was STORMING INCREDIBLE!įor seven years since I’ve started reading The Stormlight Archive, I couldn’t decide which title was my favourite, as they were all equally amazing in their own right. Even with my sky-high expectations for this book, Sanderson has surpassed them yet again. Rhythm of War had me humming to the Rhythm of Awe.
